STORYLINE:
1. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will pay an official visit to China from December 2 to 5. What is China’s comment on this? Can China introduce the arrangements for this visit?
During this visit to China, Prime Minister Oli will meet with President Xi Jinping, and hold talks and meetings with Premier Li Qiang and Chairman Zhao Leji. The leaders of the two countries will have in-depth exchanges on deepening the traditional friendship between China and Nepal, expanding cooperation in building the Belt and Road initiative, and other areas of exchange and cooperation, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.
2. Sweden said yesterday that it had formally requested China to cooperate in investigating the cutting of two cables in the Baltic Sea, with Chinese ships being implicated. Can the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provide the latest information on this incident and the investigation?
China is willing to cooperate with relevant countries to find out the truth. Currently, China and Sweden are maintaining close communication on this matter.
3. A Beijing court sentenced Chinese journalist Dong Yuyu to seven years in prison today for espionage. Do you have any comments?
China is a country governed by the rule of law. The judicial authorities in China strictly handle cases according to the law, and any illegal activities or crimes will be punished according to the law.
4. Did China directly tell the US not to allow Lai Ching-te to transit through Guam and Hawaii?
The separatist activities of Taiwan independence are incompatible with peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. If the US wants to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait, it is crucial to recognize the Taiwan independence nature of Lai Ching-te and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, and handle the Taiwan issue with utmost caution, clearly opposing Taiwan independence and supporting China’s peaceful reunification.
I want to reiterate that China firmly opposes any form of official interaction between the US and Taiwan, firmly opposes the leaders of the Taiwan authorities visiting the US under any pretext or for any reason, and firmly opposes the US supporting Taiwan independence separatist forces and their activities in any form.
We urge the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, earnestly fulfill the commitments made by US leaders not to support Taiwan independence, stop official interactions with Taiwan, and stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces. China is determined to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and opposes external interference in its internal affairs.
5. According to reports, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently issued three executive orders to prevent China’s "overseas police stations" and "Fox Hunt" operations from suppressing dissidents. He also banned Texas government agencies and all public higher education institutions from signing new commercial contracts with companies controlled by the Chinese government, and protected Texas’ critical infrastructure from what he called Chinese attacks. Do you have comments on this?
The so-called Chinese overseas police stations do not exist. Chinese law enforcement agencies strictly conduct foreign law enforcement cooperation in accordance with international law, fully respect foreign laws and judicial sovereignty, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of criminal suspects in accordance with the law.
