STORYLINE:
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Tuesday that international law would need to be respected when it came to the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking to journalists at the meeting of the G7, the world’s leading industrialized countries, Tajani said "We are friends of Israel but I think we need to respect the international law.”
Tajani also spoke about the need for peace in Gaza and Lebanon.
"We are working for peace and we wish that soon we will reach a ceasefire in Lebanon and then we are working for a ceasefire in Gaza," he said.
The top diplomats are meeting for the final time before a new U.S. administration takes office with wars raging in the Mideast and Ukraine.
Gaza, Lebanon and the war in Ukraine are top of the agenda of discussions.
