“Well, I mean, it’s pretty much a good topic to avoid at all right now, so yeah, because people are very polarized about what they think is going to happen and people wishing terrible things upon other people based on how they voted. And you know, at this point besides voting or, you know, being active in whatever causes there are, there’s not a lot we can do. We just have to hope for the best.”

“Yeah, we don’t ever bring politics up at Thanksgiving. It’s about family. It’s about, you know, hanging out with our kids and teaching them how to be thankful and not finding ways to argue.”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Deidra Lee, shopper:
“Before the election, oh, that was the main topic with everyone. Now, that the results are over, until President-elect (Donald) Trump is in office and we see what he’s really going to do, there’s not too much to talk about. We’ve heard all the things that he promises to do from day one and we’ll see how many of them he does.”

“I mean, I don’t think it will heat up in our home, but I would recommend other families that might have some kind of disagreement on the outcome of the election to definitely avoid it, yes.”
Lydia Thomas, shopper (English): “The whole point of Thanksgiving is to be thankful for each other, not to be griping at each other, so it’s probably not a good thing to bring up something like that.”

STORYLINE:
As people across the U.S. continue preparations for Thanksgiving shoppers in Kentucky said one item of discussion will be off the table when families gather for holiday celebrations: politics.
Donald Trump scored a decisive victory as he beat Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in this month’s presidential election in a deeply divided nation.
Shoppers in Louisville, said they would be keeping the subject of politics out their chats when gathering with their loved ones for Thanksgiving on Thursday.
"I mean, it’s pretty much a good topic to avoid at all right now, so yeah, because people are very polarized about what they think is going to happen and people wishing terrible things upon other people based on how they voted," said Cynthia Thomas as visited a local farmers market in the city.
"I would recommend other families that might have some kind of disagreement on the outcome of the election to definitely avoid it," she added.
Turkey famer, Melina Slaughter, meanwhile said she and her family never bring up politics during Thanksgiving celebrations.
"It’s about family. It’s about, you know, hanging out with our kids and teaching them how to be thankful and not finding ways to argue," she said.
