STORYLINE:
A North Korean speed and figure skating delegation started their trainings in the Russian city of Ussuriysk Monday.
16 skaters from North Korea arrived in Russia’s Far East on Friday for joint training sessions with Russian athletes.
They will train at an ice arena in the Primorsky region for two months.
The arriving group was not the first hosted in the Primorsky region: six other skaters spent a month in Ussuriysk in August, and boxers and volleyball players trained in various locations earlier this year.
The visits have been another sign of the growing cooperation between the countries.
President Vladimir Putin travelled in June to North Korea, where he met with its leader, Kim Jong Un.
They signed a "comprehensive strategic partnership treaty" that was the strongest link between Moscow and Pyongyang since the end of the Cold War.
Both countries have been targeted with Western sanctions.
