"It is so far from what they have asked for. It is so far from what our communities need on the ground. It will ensure that we blow the carbon budget, that nobody on the ground is able to have climate reparations or be able to make the transition away from fossil fuels with this kind of financing. It allows the developed countries to completely abandon their goal that was enshrined in the Paris Agreement.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Kirtana Chandrasekaran, Friends of the Earth International:
"We stand strong. The whole of broad civil society is wholeheartedly supporting the G77 if they should choose in rejecting the current negotiating text. It’s completely unacceptable and allows the developed countries a complete exit from their obligations to provide climate finance for developing countries.”

STORYLINE:
Several dozen activists marched in silence outside the halls where delegates were meeting at the COP29 climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, raising and crossing their arms to indicate rejection of a draft deal released Friday.

Kirtana Chandrasekaran, of Friends of the Earth International, said her organization rejected the draft text because it does not provide enough money for developing countries most impacted by the effects of climate change.

Negotiators are expected to work on another version of their text through Friday evening and into the morning in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the U.N. climate talks officially ended earlier today.
