STORYLINE:
Ukraine’s foreign ministry spokesperson said the government was awaiting expert conclusions to determine the exact type of new missile fired by Russia at the country on Thursday.
Heorhii Tykhyi said the missile, which Ukraine said was fired at the central city of Dnipro, had the flight characteristics of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
But American officials said Thursday an initial U.S. assessment indicated the strike was carried out with an intermediate-range ballistic missile.
"This strike and the use of a new type of missile, which has already been confirmed to be a new type of missile, once again proves that Russia does not seek peace," Tykhyi said at a press briefing in Kyiv.
