7. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer – on the revival:
“So, we’re here today, at Luna Luna which is a spectacular showcase of the world’s first art amusement park. Luna Luna originally showed in Hamburg (Germany) in 1987, and it featured artworks. This artist named Andre Heller basically recruited an incredible roster of artists to create rides, games, attractions. It showed for one short summer. 300,000 people attended. And it was planning for a global tour. And unfortunately, it got lost. It got put in the wrong hands and ended up in a Texas storage facility. 8. Luna Luna signage

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer – on the history of Luna parks:
“Luna parks first started in the early 1900s in Coney Island and then quickly started to spread and show up all over the globe. They became really popular in Europe, which is where Andre got to experience his first one in Austria, in Vienna, which is still around today, called the Crater.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer – on the experience of attending:
“First and foremost, you get to learn about the rise, fall and resurrection of Luna Luna. You then get to see these truly unique one-of-a-kind works, you know, the only Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paris, Keith Haring carousel. You can go and come and get married to whomever or whatever you would like at Andre Heller’s Wedding chapel. You could walk through the Glass Labyrinth by Roy Lichtenstein. And then this, the New York City edition of Luna Luna, we’re really excited to premiere a new work by a duo called Poncili Creation, which have created a roster of characters, that are going to be roaming the experience, and there’s a special area called on Poncili Land that guests can interact and create things together.”

16. SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer – on the authenticity:
“And some of these works were created by a team of artisans, but a lot of them like the Keith Haring Carousel and the Kenny Scharf Wave Swinger, were hand-painted by the artist.”

20. SOUNDBITE (English) Alex Poots, Creative Director of The Shed – on putting it together:
“There was huge hurdles in terms of finances. Partners, you know, we’ve got the guys who tour Pink Floyd helping out. We’ve got the Drake team. There’s the Shed. There’s a whole creative team who’ve come in to really bring this show to life. And I’d say without that synthesis of those partners, this would not be possible.”

22. SOUNDBITE (English) Alex Poots, Creative Director of The Shed – on the artist’s coming together for the 1987 Luna Luna:
“They had a shared passion to bring Heller’s original vision to life. This idea of the world’s greatest artists of the late 20th century, some of the world’s greatest artists, to make these iconic pieces that move, that enchant. And that really redefined what an exhibition can be.”
