“It is more emergency than COVID-19 because every patient is suffering from respiratory tract infection and the diseases is presenting at a mass level, so it is prevailing at a mass level, so government must take some preventive measures which can reduce the smog and it should be implemented ++inaudible++ not at the right time but well before the smoke is prevalent in these areas.”

“I have been very sick for the last seven days. My throat is infected badly because of the smog. I’m suffering from the flu. My cough is unstoppable and it’s very difficult for me to go to work. I can’t go to my office. I am the only person who earns and feeds my family. My entire system is badly disturbed, and the doctor strictly forbids me to go outside. I don’t know what to do.”

“We have been trying to restrict the markets to close at 8 o’clock in the evening and, along with that, we have also been checking the transport. We have also been having a close check on the stubble burning and all other related issues. We have procured more than three lakhs (300,000) face masks that we have distributed among the general public to make them aware of the hazardous impacts of the smog on the general public.”

“Yes, there is a problem but some is their (government’s) own fault. That’s why these things happen. If they took safety measures well before and closed down factories releasing smoke on time each year, then we wouldn’t get smog. In some of the areas, they (the government) imposed a lockdown, which means we cannot take passengers to those areas, and if we go, they fine us 2,000 rupees (7 USD). How can we pay that size of fine when we earn 1,000 (3.5 USD ) in a whole day."
