"His policy is not good. He is biased towards the Israeli side. And we, Palestinians, have no one to support us. Even the Arabs do not stand with each other. So his policy is biased towards Israel for sure, not towards us."
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Jihad abu Ara, Ramallah resident:
"Trump or any other president, they all have the same policy, two sides of the same coin. There will be no difference for us because they are all Jews, and they do not consider us to be human beings existing on the Earth. Therefore, there is no difference between Trump or any other president. They are all Jews, and we are the oppressed ones in this world."

"The general sentiment among Palestinians is that the election of Donald Trump will be a setback for the Palestinian cause. This belief is based on two factors: first, the experience from Trump’s previous term, during which he demonstrated significant bias toward Israel; second, the appointments he made, including that of the (future) U.S. ambassador to Israel. All these indicators suggest that the upcoming period will see increased bias toward Israel, which will hinder the potential for progress toward a settlement and consequently prolong the conflict and suffering related to the Palestinian cause."

STORYLINE:
Palestinians in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank reacted on Thursday to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s initial administration picks, including his choices for future ambassadors to Israel and the U.N., both of whom are expected to be pro-Israel.
Trump announced Tuesday that he picked former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as ambassador to Israel and his longtime friend Steven Witkoff to be a special envoy to the Middle East.
Huckabee is a staunch defender of Israel, and his intended nomination comes as Trump has promised to align U.S. foreign policy more closely with Israel’s interests as it wages wars against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
"The general sentiment among Palestinians is that the election of Donald Trump will be a setback for the Palestinian cause," said political analyst Ghassan al-khaib.
"This belief is based on two factors: first, the experience from Trump’s previous term, during which he demonstrated significant bias toward Israel; second, the appointments he made, including that of the (future) U.S. ambassador to Israel," he added, speaking from Ramallah.
Omar Awadallah, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that the Palestinian Authority will evaluate policies based on “how to end this aggression against the Palestinian people,” not by “optimism or pessimism.”
Settlement supporters believe they have plenty of reasons to celebrate Trump’s winning.
Not only did the expansion of housing for Jews in the occupied West Bank soar past previous records during Trump’s first term, but his administration took unprecedented steps to support Israel’s territorial claims, including recognizing Jerusalem as its capital and moving the U.S. Embassy there, and recognizing Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights.
In Gaza, Israel’s military offensive has killed more than 43,000 people, more than half of them women and children, Palestinian health officials say. The officials do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
