STORYLINE:
Residents laid flowers outside a sports complex where a car attack had killed at least 35 people in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai.
A man who authorities said was upset over his divorce settlement rammed his car into a crowd of people exercising at the Zhuhai Sports Center on Monday night.
Police detained the 62-year-old man, who is being treated for wounds thought to be self-inflicted, shortly after the attack Monday night. Searches for what happened were heavily censored for users behind China’s firewall.
In addition to the 35 people killed, police said 43 were injured.
Police set up barricades at an entrance to the sports complex Tuesday, barring people from entering. However, members of the public left bouquets on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning by the square just adjacent to the sports center.
