“The participants are both professional bakers and amateur bakers. So, we have bakers who work in pastry shops, restaurants, professional bakers from across the city, as well as people who have never baked professionally. They just do it as a hobby. We have a surgeon; we have a real estate agent. We have engineering students, some people who bake gingerbread for the first time this year.”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Dr. Michael Wolffe, Surgeon:
“What allowed me to do this was the fact that prior to going to medical school, I was actually an artist, I have a degree in medical illustration, and I taught for two years at the Cleveland Institute of Art. And so, I always try to bring everything that I bake. I try to be artful in that respect. And so, I bring my artistic skills as well as my technical skills as being a surgeon and with my precision and accuracy, and I try to incorporate that into everything that I bake. And so, I thought this gingerbread project, given the fact that I’ve never even this is my first ever gingerbread project, I thought having those skills in that background would allow me to do something like this.”
