4. SOUNDBITE (Farsi) Esmail Baghaei, Iran foreign ministry spokesman:
"The timing and subject of this accusation (an alleged Iranian murder-for-hire plot to kill Donald Trump) are both suspicious, and in my opinion, wicked too. It can be perceived as another mine laid in the path of the extremely complex relations between Iran and America. We have openly rejected any involvement in such matters and consider the accusations completely baseless."

++ANSWERING A QUESTION ON REZA VALIZADEH, AN IRANIAN-AMERICAN JOURNALIST BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN DETAINED BY IRAN++
"What we know is that an Iranian national has been arrested. We saw this in the news. He is an Iranian national, whether he holds citizenship for another country, at least I’m not aware of such thing. We are in touch with relevant bodies to find out what the situation has been like."

8. SOUNDBITE (Farsi) Esmail Baghaei, Iran foreign ministry spokesman:
"We hope that in the time remaining (for the current U.S. administration) the U.S government prevents escalation of warmongering and the crimes in Gaza and Lebanon. Of course, another important point is that the incoming U.S officials learn a lesson from the current situation and keep the promises they made during their election campaigns. The region and the Muslim world and all countries are closely watching the current and next U.S. government’s behavior and the international community wants an end to genocide, crimes and aggression in Palestine and Lebanon and escalation in West Asia."

10. SOUNDBITE (Farsi) Esmail Baghaei, Iran foreign ministry spokesman:
"We have said this from the beginning that we are not part of the conflict in Ukraine. We insist that differences are resolved peacefully through talks. We are still committed to that approach and we are disappointed to see some Ukrainian officials insisting on their anti-Iranian allegations."

STORYLINE:
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman denied his country’s involvement in an assassination plan targeting Donald Trump.
The U.S. Justice Department on Friday disclosed an Iranian murder-for-hire plot to kill Trump, charging a man who said he had been tasked by a government official before this week’s election with planning the assassination of the Republican president-elect.
Investigators were told of the plan to kill Trump by Farhad Shakeri, an accused Iranian government asset who spent time in American prisons for robbery and who authorities say maintains a network of criminal associates enlisted by Tehran for surveillance and murder-for-hire plots.
"We have openly rejected any involvement in such matters and consider the accusations completely baseless," said Esmail Baghaei during a regular briefing.
Baghaei said the accusation was another "mine" planted under the already complex relations between Iran and the U.S.
