"I think that CBP One is not enough for everyone. I think that in Tapachula alone there must be more or less 50,000 migrants waiting for an appointment. One looks at the chronology of CBP One and I don’t think it is sufficient for everyone. It is not enough and when Trump gets to power with a stroke of a pen he will eliminate it all, as he has said and he will do."

"Organized crime is the big beneficiary, because the income from illegal human trafficking is already equal to or greater than the income from drugs. And if you analyze and follow what is happening in Chiapas, then the territorial dispute is not about trafficking drugs, but about trafficking people."

"If these raids and deportations are carried out and the United States decides to deport third country nationals to Mexico, which is something that Mexico historically has not accepted, the legal precedent of Remain in Mexico, even though it involved asylum seekers, can now affect us very negatively."

"Donald Trump doesn’t like Latinos, Donald Trump said he was going to remove all Latinos from the United States, a massive deportation. So now it’s going to be harder to get in. There are going to be new laws, new regulations, new rules and now it’s going to be harder for us Latinos to get there."

STORYLINE:
Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election instantly changed calculations for millions of migrants or potential migrants across the globe.

Trump has promised to end a U.S. program called CBP One that brought some degree of order to asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border.

He wants to again restrict refugee resettlement and he warned throughout the campaign of mass deportations.

Trump’s victory was deflating and worrisome to those en route to the United States, but not a deal breaker.

Early Wednesday morning, some 2,500 migrants continued to walk through southern Mexico.

Instead, they watched U.S. election results on their cell phones.

"CBP One is not enough for everyone,” said Herrera.
