STORYLINE:
China is willing to strengthen communication, expand cooperation and resolve differences with the US on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said Thursday.
Spokesperson He Yongqian’s comments came the day after Donald Trump won the US presidential election.
“We hope to promote the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations, benefiting both countries and the world,” He said.
China’s exports rose 12.7% in October from a year earlier, the fastest monthly growth in more than two years, according to customs data released Thursday.
Trump has pledged to increase tariffs on imports from China to 60%, adding to uncertainty over the outlook for exports to the U.S.
