7. SOUNDBITE (English) David Lammy, U.K. Foreign Secretary:
"The U.K. has had a longstanding position that Africa must be represented on the U.N. Security Council and I’m keen to better understand if the recent position is supported by other members of the Security Council, particularly Russia and China, that have been a block on the U.N. Security Council’s expansion in the past, which has not been the U.K. position. We have been supported now for many, many years."

STORYLINE:
U.K. foreign minister David Lammy met on Tuesday with his South African counterpart Ronald Lamola in Cape Town for bilateral talks focusing on strengthening relations between their countries.
Lammy expressed "huge concern" at the deployment of North Korean troops to fight alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
He also reiterated that the U.K. wished to see greater African representation on the U.N. Security Council.
"The U.K. has had a longstanding position that Africa must be represented on the U.N. Security Council and I’m keen to better understand if the recent position is supported by other members of the Security Council, particularly Russia and China, that have been a block on the U.N. Security Council’s expansion in the past, which has not been the U.K. position," he said.
Lammy’s visit to South Africa is part of his first official trip to Africa since taking office in July.
