“We Iraqi citizens are strongly following this election and we are cautious who might win. We are always hesitant and worry, because if (Kamala) Harris wins, then she will take the same path of the current president and she will continue his programme, and if Trump wins; well Trump is the man who is not reliable in his words, and most likely he might act recklessly and lead the world to a war that is more brutal than the current one.”

“Who wins? I think Trump, according to his policy or his previous term (in office) he will work on stopping the war without giving an American compromise. It is true that the Americans will not compromise and would not abandon Israel, but some wars will stop or the regional wars will stop and it might lead to a smooth dealing with the Middle East, and be much calmer than now."

STORYLINE:
Residents of Baghdad, as well as most Iraqis and people around the world, will be following the result of the U.S. Election taking place on Tuesday.
Like others in the Middle East, they are waiting to see what relations the next president will have with the region and if that will help to stop the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, as well as the one between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Qais Najm said he does not see an end to the war with either of the candidates, Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump.
“We are always hesitant and worry, because if Harris wins, then she will take the same path of the current president (Joe Biden) and she will continue his programme, and if Trump wins; well Trump is the man who is not reliable in his words, and most likely he might act recklessly and lead the world to a war that is more brutal than the current one,” he said.
Anwar al Mousawi said he was more hopeful for the conflict to deescalate if the Republicans win, but admitted neither winner would "abandon Israel".
Iraq is attempting to navigate the repercussions of the wars in the Middle East and to balance its relationship with Iran and the United States, which are backing opposing parties in the regional conflict.
Iran-aligned political blocs and militias have significant power in Iraq. The militias have regularly launched drone attacks on bases housing U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for Washington’s support for Israel in its wars against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In recent months they have also targeted sites in Israel directly.
At the same time, Iraq’s government has sought to avoid alienating the U.S., upon which it has relied for economic and military support, including in the fight against the Islamic State militant group.
The country also faces rampant corruption and internal divisions.
