“It’s no longer acceptable, that the people who try to save somebody else’s life have to pay the ultimate price of giving up their own lives. This would no longer be allowed, and we are calling for the states, all the states all over the world to ensure the respect."

“What we realise now is that the needs are just growing so fast, they need additional support and that’s why today during my visit, we have launched an international emergency appeal asking for donors to provide the resources the Lebanese workforce needs, and those resources are needed to ensure that the emergency medical services can continue. And, you know, the Lebanese Red Cross have been providing this service for many, many years with 51 emergency medical centres across the country. All the blood transfusion centres, they must be able to function."

Is the, is the as the winter approaches, so, these are all the needs. The Lebanese Red Cross is expected by the population to provide. And through this appeal, we at least hope to make a contribution so they can continue. We feel that they even if the if the hostilities stop. It will take time for things to go back to normal. That’s one of the reason our emergency appeal, goes for two years."

STORYLINE:
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies launched Tuesday an international emergency appeal asking donors to provide resources for Lebanon amid the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah war.
IFRC also called on all parties to protect paramedics in the conflict that has left thousands of people dead and wounded, many of them over the past six weeks.
Jagan Chapagain, the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, told The Associated Press in Beirut where he met officials and toured shelters housing people displaced by the conflict that "needs are just growing so fast."
The IFRC said its emergency appeal is for 100 million Swiss Francs ($115.8 million) to help Lebanon and the Lebanese Red Cross through the ongoing conflict.
The 13-month war between Israel and Hezbollah has killed more than 3,000 people, and wounded over 13,000 in Lebanon. Hundreds of thousands of the displaced are staying in shelters around the small nation that is passing through a historic economic crisis.
In Israel, 72 people have been killed by Hezbollah attacks, including 30 soldiers, according to the Israeli prime minister’s office. More than 60,000 people have been displaced from their homes.
The conflict dramatically escalated on Sept. 23 with intense Israeli airstrikes on south and east Lebanon as well as Beirut’s southern suburbs, leaving hundreds dead and leading to the displacement of nearly 1.2 million people.
