STORYLINE:
Mourners in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin held a funeral on Tuesday for two Palestinians who were killed in an Israeli airstrike earlier in the day.
The funeral procession was held in Mothalath Ash-Shuhada, near the city of Jenin.
The city is a flashpoint for Israeli-Palestinian violence.
The bodies of the Palestinian men were wrapped in Palestinian flags and carried through the village.
Elsewhere in the West Bank, two other people were killed by Israeli fire in the village of Tamoun on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The Israeli military said it had called in an airstrike on a militant cell near Jenin. There was no immediate comment on the two people killed in Tamoun.
Israeli forces have carried out near-daily military raids in the West Bank since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack out of the Gaza Strip triggered the war there. The Health Ministry says at least 767 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the outbreak of the war.
Most appear to have been militants killed in battles with Israeli forces, but the dead also include people killed during violent protests, as well as civilian bystanders.
Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast war, and the Palestinians want it to form the main part of their future state.
