Elwood Edwards, the original voice of AOL, has died. Edwards said his wife, who in 1989 worked for the computer company that later became America Online, volunteered his voice for a new project with a cassette tape recording. For four now iconic lines, which include "You’ve got mail," he only received $200. Back in 2016, Edwards told Inside Edition he was making extra money driving an Uber. Elwood Hughes Edwards died the day before his 75th birthday.
