"When we reached the scene, we got mass casualties and were able to do a quick assessment and triage at that point and we started transporting these casualties to our facility, which is Paluda Health Center III and from the figures we identified, we had 14 mortalities. And these are people who died on the spot and the age group of 9 to 21, the youngest being a 9-year-old girl, then the eldest being a 21-year-old male. Then we registered 14 mortalities. Six were females and eight were males and these deaths occurred at the scene but the bodies were brought all to Paluda Health Center III.”

STORYLINE:
People killed when lightning struck a church in a refugee camp in northern Uganda were taken for burial on Sunday.
14 people were killed when lightning struck the church Saturday in the remote district of Lamwo, but the incident was only reported Sunday.
Police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke said 34 other people were injured when the lightning hit the makeshift metallic structure in the Palabek settlement camp, which primarily houses refugees from South Sudan.
Deadly lightning is commonly reported in Uganda during the wet season.
