STORYLINE:
Emergency services in Aldaia in Spain’s Valencia region continued Monday to search for bodies in a flooded underground car park.
Military units and firefighters joined forces to drain water and mud at the Bonaire shopping center, the biggest mall in Valencia, with a capacity of 5,700 parking spaces.
It’s feared there are dozens of bodies in what is expected to be a long and complicated process involving police, fire fighters and other responders.
Police cordoned off the scene as equipment was delivered and Spain’s Military Emergency Unit (UME) arrived.
Spain has been hit by flash floods caused by heavy downpours, devastating many homes and businesses.
Across the country, authorities have recovered 217 bodies so far — with 213 of them in the eastern Valencia region.
