STORYLINE:
For the first time in 100 years the Santiago funicular on Thursday opened its doors at night to welcome passengers on a scary adventure, full of history and mystery.

Visitors were welcomed by a macabre porter at Pío Nono Castle and rode the funicular in the company of a ghostly bride who told stories to those journeying up the San Cristóbal Hill.

Once at the top, visitors were able to enjoy a nighttime view of Santiago.

The event was one of many being carried out to mark the 100th anniversary of the Santiago funicular, according to Humberto Miranda, the attraction’s maintenance chief.

“We are carrying out a series of activities and this is one of them, a surprise activity for our public, taking advantage of the Gothic style of the lower station of the funicular and coinciding with this Halloween night," he said.

The event was hugely popular, with all 300 tickets selling out.

“It’s an unforgettable experience because I had ridden the funicular before, but not at night," said visitor Sandra Brito.

"Its stories and each of the characters were very beautiful. So I recommend it.”
