(20 May 1994) The leader of Britain’s opposition Labour party, John Smith, was mourned at his funeral on Friday (20/5) by politicians from across Europe. Prime Minister John Major, who had movingly paid tribute to Smith as an opponent not an enemy, flew to the Scottish capital for the service at the Cluny Church where Smith worshipped every Sunday.
