7. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Cai Xuzhe, Shenzhou-19 mission commander:
“The more solid the preparation on the ground, the more calmly we can operate in space. There is always the possibility that unexpected situations may occur when we carry out missions on the space station. This poses a high demand for our crew’s ability to deal with emergencies, and it is also the biggest challenge we face. We are confident that with sufficient preparation and training, and firm support from the ground, we will be able to face the challenges and accomplish all scheduled tasks safely, smoothly and steadily.”

10. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Wang Haoze, Shenzhou-19 mission crew member:
"In this mission, we will undertake heavy space science experiments and station management tasks. I am mainly responsible for space experiment projects, material management, and station management work. Of course, many major projects will be jointly completed by our three-person crew. There is no perfect individual, only a perfect team. I believe that under the leadership of the team leader, and with the tacit cooperation between space and ground, our crew will complete the mission smoothly and successfully."

STORYLINE:
Chinese astronauts said on Tuesday they were braced for challenges faced in space as they were set to carry out the upcoming Shenzhou-19 spaceflight mission, the country’s latest effort to make itself a major space power.
China will send the three-member crew, two men and one woman, to replace the Chinese astronauts who’ve lived on the Tiangong space station for the last six months early Wednesday.
At a brief news conference Tuesday behind protective glass, the new mission commander, Cai Xuzhe, said this mission included “multiple extravehicular activities” and his team has done “sufficient training on the ground” to ensure the smooth running of the tasks.
“There is always the possibility that unexpected situations may occur when we carry out missions on the space station. This poses a high demand for our crew’s ability to deal with emergencies, and it is also the biggest challenge we face,” Cai said.
Cai went to space in the Shenzhou-14 mission in 202, while the other two of the crew, Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze, are first-time space travellers both born in the 1990s.
Song was an air force pilot and Wang an engineer with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation who will be the crew’s payload specialist. Wang will be the third Chinese woman aboard a crewed mission.
Wang said she would be “mainly responsible for space experiment projects, material management, and station management work” during the mission.
