"We strongly reject such allegations (of Russian meddling). You know, they (allegations) are of repetitive character already: a first sign of trouble and Russia is to blame for meddling. No, this is not the case, there was no interference. The allegations are unfounded."

4. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
"It is declared publicly that there are attempts to destabilise the situation in the republic (of Georgia). We can see with the naked eye the interference attempts, but not by Russia. A lot of forces from European countries and various European institutions tried to affect the results of this voting. Nobody hid it, it was public statements. Unlike Moscow. We aren’t meddling in Georgia’s internal affairs, and we have no intention of meddling."

6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
"This is the choice of Georgian people. It is very important now that no third countries interfere in the results of this election. The president (of Georgia) said that she didn’t recognise the result of this election. I’m not sure if the authority of the Georgian President includes the recognition or non-recognition of the election. In any case it is an internal matter of Georgia."
STORYLINE:
The spokesman of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov has rejected accusations of interference in the parliamentary election held in Georgia on 26 October.
Georgia’s president on Monday urged the West to support the opposition protests against the official results of the weekend election, in which the governing party was declared victorious amid voting irregularities and allegations of Russian meddling.
"We aren’t meddling in Georgia’s internal affairs, and we have no intention of meddling," Kremlin spokesman Peskov said, instead accusing the West of influencing the outcome of the vote.
Asked about Zourabichvili’s call for the Georgians to join protests, he described it as an attempt to destabilise the situation in the country.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who refused to recognize the official results, told The Associated Press in an interview that the South Caucasus nation has fallen victim to Russian pressure aimed at derailing its plans to join the European Union.
"We’ve seen that Russian propaganda was directly used," said Zourabichvili, a fierce critic of the governing party.
She said Georgia’s government has been "working hand-in-hand with Russia" and probably had help from the Russian security services.
