"So, I began my journalism career right here in Beverly Hills 30 years ago at a local newspaper. And as I was there, I delved into some of these cases that I call only in 90210 crimes that could only happen here. And I just have been fascinated with them for all this time and been picking up little bits and pieces. And I finally had time to write the book. So, I picked some of my favorite cases to write about."

"So, ‘Beverly Hills Noir’ features some of my favorite crimes from throughout the history of Beverly Hills. It begins in the 1920s with a murder mystery here at Greystone Mansion that endures still today. There’s a cat burglar story from the 1940 that features one of the most handsome, sophisticated thieves ever to hit this region in the 1950s. There’s a story set at a talent agency that involves a shooting as a result of a love triangle between a film producer, his actress wife and her agent in the 1960s at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. There’s a barroom brawl involving Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and a couple of other millionaires That takes a drastic turn in the 1980s at the height of Rodeo Drive. There’s a hostage situation at the jewelry store, Van Cleef & Arpels That takes a really tragic turn. And in the 2000s, there’s the shoplifting trial of Winona Ryder, which is a trial unlike anything Hollywood has ever seen before."

"The press amps up the pressure every time there’s a high-profile case in Beverly Hills. There’s a story to be gotten and everybody wants to get it. Everybody wants to get that just perfect shot of the star walking into the courtroom. They want to find out who they were talking to before a crime was committed or committed against them. It is just a feeding frenzy, and it has been since the beginnings of Hollywood. It’s just part of what life is like here when bad things happen to famous people."

"One of the things that I find interesting about the crimes in Beverly Hills is that there’s almost always a celebrity component. Celebrity is either the culprit, the victim a suspect, and then there’s a bystander or a cameo player. There’s so much extravagant wealth here that it’s an irresistible location for criminals to strike, for people to do other people dirty. It’s just rich with, like, intrigue and wealth and abundance of fame. And every story gets magnified because of those elements."

"What you see, too, is not just Hollywood celebrities, but Beverly Hills is home to heads of billion-dollar companies or politicians or heads of state from other countries. And so, they all kind of mix and mingle right here in this part of L.A.. And so, anybody from any, you know, walk of life in pop culture, in politics, art, fashion, anybody could be a player in these stories. And that makes it even more intriguing."
