STORYLINE:
A series of Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut’s southern suburb on Monday night and early Tuesday, killing at least 13 people and wounding 57, including seven who were in critical condition, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Several buildings in Bir Hassan area were flattened to ground and rescuers were working on pulling out the bodies from under the rubble on Tuesday morning.

Mohammad Ibrahim, one of the resident said that he is still looking for his brother who is still under the rubble.

"We are trying to search for him, but there is no way for a machine to get here. No one can help us pull him out. I don’t know if he is dead or still alive," he added.

A statement released by the ministry stated among the four dead was a child.

The night strikes caused damages in Rafik Hariri governmental hospital that is in that area.

The strikes occurred as Amos Hochstein, the U.S. envoy for President Joe Biden, was in Beirut attempting to negotiate a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah.

On Monday, Israel struck the Hezbollah-run financial institution Al-Qard Al-Hassan in Beirut, Bekaa, and southern Lebanon.

Israeli ground forces invaded Lebanon earlier this month.

The military said it aims to push Hezbollah out of southern Lebanon so that tens of thousands of Israelis can return to their homes nearby after more than a year of cross-border rocket and drone attacks.

Israeli airstrikes have pounded large areas of Lebanon for weeks, forcing over a million people to flee their homes.
