"Yeah. So today we’re here in South Gate going door to door from our Union Local 324 to the union members that live in this community. And understanding if they’ve already voted, if they plan on voting on how they plan on voting."

"This election by far, for the 34 years that I’ve been in as a member is the most critical. And the reason it’s the most critical is we’ve been able to see with this administration on the promises that have been put out there and the promises that have been kept. And so this election is super vital with the Harris campaign for president because we want to see that continue."

"Yeah. I mean, we, we hear a lot of times that it’s every election is the most important election cycle. But there’s you know obviously for for union members there’s things at risk with depending on who gets in office. You know, in Michigan, we’ve overturned some anti-union policies recently, and we want to make sure those friendly people stay in place that are going to support us and the American workers."

STORYLINE:
Union volunteers, members of the Operating Engineers Local 324 went door knocking in a neighborhood in Southgate, Michigan, to encourage other union members to vote for Kamala Harris this upcoming election season.
For Lee Graham, one of the union volunteers canvassing the neighborhood, this election season is the most critical since he became a member of the union 34 years ago. "We’ve been able to see with this administration on the promises that have been put out there and the promises that have been kept," said Graham in an interview.
Fellow union member, Willie Dubas, of the Operating Engineers Local 324, felt similarly about supporting a democratic ticket this presidential election. "In Michigan, we’ve overturned some anti-union policies recently, and we want to make sure those friendly people stay in place that are going to support us and the American workers," said Dubas.
Although some union members had moved from the address the volunteers had been provided, the volunteers encouraged those who answered the door to support the candidates they felt were better for the future of unions in Michigan.
