RR7631A: EAST AFRICA CRISIS / AMIN PROFILE
The stability of East Africa is threatened by the
dispute between President Idi Amin’s Uganda and the
neighbouring country of Kenya. The trouble began
when President Amin charged Kenya with aiding an
Israeli operation to rescue over a hundred hostages
on Ugandan soil at Entebbe Airport. Kenya has held
up vital supplies to Uganda, claiming Amin owes
them money. Amin also faces an internal economic
crisis and has said he will wage war on Kenya if help
with supplies isn’t forthcoming. This report also
examines Amin’s career to date.
