The White House is making a fresh push to secure a cease-fire in the Middle East before next month’s US presidential election. US special envoy Amos Hochstein visited Lebanon for the second time in two months and held talks with Hezbollah ally Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri. He said the implementation of US Resolution 1701 was not enough to secure an end to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and that ‘additional measures’ were needed. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is also heading back to the region, in his 11th trip since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. He is set to stop off in several countries including Israel. In a private letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Biden administration warned the US could withhold some military aid to Israel unless more humanitarian assistance gets into to northern Gaza.
