"The UK has reacted with grief and shock this morning, this devastating news. Tributes from fans, from the music industry, from those who knew and loved Liam. There’s just been an absolute outpouring of love. The news was so shocking to hear overnight from Argentina, so hard to process that we’ve lost someone at just the age of 31, a ridiculously talented young man who achieved so much success with one of the biggest-selling bands of all time."

"I’ve been on the radio this morning and my colleagues have been on the radio and my colleagues on sister station Capital Radio, Heart Radio and more. There’s just been an absolute outpouring of love from fans who grew up with One Direction, who knew them from 2011, who really loved and knew those boys and followed their solo careers. And then, and also an outpouring of love from from parents, from families who took their kids to see One Direction live, followed their careers, visited Wembley Stadium, went to all the arenas. You know, we’re talking several years of love for One Direction ever since they first appeared on the U.K. TV on ‘The X Factor.’ So I’ve heard today lots of stories from listeners, many, many listeners who are upset, Directioners who’ve been loyal since day one and from the public who are just struggling to cope with this news and to accept that we’ve lost someone at the age of 31. It’s tragic."

"There will be a time when the rest of One Direction will speak. For now, the news is very raw. It’s very early. Obviously, Liam had spent time with Niall in South America watching his show in Argentina in Buenos Aires about a week ago. So they’ll need time, but I’m sure we will get a statement from Harry and Niall, Louis and Zayn. There have been statements this morning from those that were with One Direction early in their career, both on ITV, on ‘The X Factor’ television show and those that work with them as the band became a global success around the world, so many tributes worldwide. And of course, we have to remember just how massive One Direction were. One of the biggest selling U.K. bands since The Beatles, a huge global export and one of the biggest-selling pop acts of the 21st century."

"I first met Liam when he was just starting out on ‘The X Factor’ show. The band had just been formed. One Direction were about to be introduced to the great British public on that show. Millions of people tuned in to see them. And I remember meeting this very confident, gentle guy who was so charming and so interesting and was so fascinated by the whole process. He was also really good at organizing the other boys. He was the person you would go to first to get them all to behave, to speak, address the media. I’ve got fond memories of traveling around the world, meeting up with Liam and interviewing him, and also just fond memories of that incredible soulful voice. He was a great singer. He was a great talent. He was a great performer. And it’s just devastating news. It’s so hard to process. And my thoughts are with his loved ones, with his family, with Cheryl and his young son, Bear. And my heart goes out to them. He will be sorely missed."
