3. SOUNDBITE (English) Bill Whalen, 75, Asheville resident:
"Yeah. I’m here with my older brother, and we were really determined to get in and vote as soon as we can. This is a monumental election. For the first time in my life, democracy itself is at stake. I really believe that. And that’s why I think it’s so important for everyone to be out and voting. It’s a civic duty to vote. We’ve got to take it start taking it more seriously than we have in the past."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Susan Meade, 73, Asheville resident, on whether having a woman candidate is important:
"Having voted a lot at my age, I think it’s important for a women. Yes, I definitely think that’s important. And I think the right woman is Kamala."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Jarred Teague, 33, Asheville resident:
"It is hard to to even really think about voting, for some people. Because, you know, some people, if they’ve lost their entire house or or family members or something like that, that I’m sure voting is one of the last things on their mind.
And, you know, like I said, we were very fortunate that our like our business was affected, but our actual lives are okay. And so, so yeah, we… it’s a, it’s a bit easier for us to think about than, than for some people. I’m sure."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Jarred Teague, 33, Asheville resident:
"Yeah. From what I’ve seen, Republicans are less interested in funding things like FEMA. And I see that as a very crucial thing to fund. And, you know, we’ve got no problem giving loads of subsidies to some of the corporations that need it the less or needed the least or whatever. But then, you know, helping everyday people seems to be a travesty, you know, when it gets brought up in politics and everything. So. So anyway, yeah, I think that voting Democrat is again never going to be perfect, but I think that, I think it is a an important thing for seeing long-term recovery in places like this and any other future, you know, hurricanes, hurricanes that hit."

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Bill Whalen, 75, Asheville resident:
"No, I’m really devoted to cast my vote. But I think, I think a lot of people feel that way. But obviously, any time you have something this cataclysmic, it’s going to disrupt people’s lives. They’re trying to figure out how to flush the toilet and, you know, take care of basic needs. There are so many people with health care needs that it’s not understood how much help they need in a crisis like this. But be that as it may, I think there’s a _ at least in my neighborhood _ there’s a widespread understanding of the importance of this election and how important it is to vote."
