Kia is trumpeting its electric credentials with its new EV3 SUV.
It sees the electric segment as one of the most important growth areas in Europe and is promising an affordable electric SUV with a class-leading range.
STORYLINE:
South Korean car maker Kia returns to the Paris after a hiatus to announce its new EV3 electric SUV.
Stamping its credentials on the lucrative and fast growing European SUV market, Kia pulled back the covers of the EV3 in front of the media.
CEO of Kia Europe, Marc Hedrich says: ""We are standing at the pivotal moment in the automotive industry, the electric vehicle market is shifting from early adopters to the mass market supported by more vehicles and wider access to charging points. This is where the Kia EV3 steps in, built on the strong foundation as the Kia first dedicated electric compact SUV, the EV3 is primed to meet the growing demand of electric vehicle in a market segment that’s set to grow by 30 per cent by 2030."
Range anxiety has always been one of the barriers for EV adoption from potential customers.
Kia is making a big deal of the EV3’s potential range of over 370 miles.
"It offers a segment leading range of up to 605km (378 miles) allowing travel from Frankfurt to Paris with just one quick stop. In the city it can reach an impressive 773km (483 miles), a best in class range," says Hedrich.
Fast charging enables the EV3 to be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 29 minutes, or 202 km (126 miles) of range in 15 minutes with the 400 volt high-speed charger.
The EV3 will be in dealers for order from tomorrow and costs an average access price of 36,000 Euros ($39,000).
