STORYLINE:
Fuel and supplies are dwindling at three hospitals in northern Gaza with waves of wounded flowing in, as Israeli forces battle with Hamas fighters in the Jabaliya refugee camp and other northern towns, doctors say.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said his facility and the nearby al-Awda and Indonesian hospitals face “a catastrophic situation that will worsen in the coming hours if there is no fuel supply for emergency services.”
Israeli forces launched a new assault in Jabaliya earlier this week and ordered a general evacuation in northern Gaza.
The three hospitals said earlier this week they had received orders to evacuate their staff and patients, but they have so far remained.
The Israeli military has not confirmed the evacuation orders to the hospitals.
Dr. Eid Sabah, director of nursing at Kamal Adwan hospital, said rocket fire had hit near the hospital, damaging windows and the outer fence.
As of Thursday, Kamal Adwan, al-Awda and Indonesian hospitals had a total of at least 196 patients in them, including a number of pregnant women nearing giving birth, according to doctors, who said more wounded continue to come in.
