Her conviction and subsequent death sentence have become a symbol of the years-long anti-corruption campaign by Vietnam’s communist party–one that’s gone all the way to the highest echelons of power. The case also highlights the developing economy’s challenges as it positions itself as an alternative investment destination to China.
