A warning for parents: whooping cough is on the rise this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control. It says the spread of the infection has returned to pre-pandemic levels. Whooping cough, or pertussis, shows through signs of a cold with coughing, runny nose and a possible fever. Coughing can become so severe that it causes a patient to gasp for air.
