1. SOUNDBITE (English) Donald Trump, Former U.S. President, Republican presidential nominee:
"I don’t think anything that we’re talking about today is high on her (Kamala Harris) list. The whole country is going to be like, you want to know the truth? It’ll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president. You’re going to have a mess on your hands. She destroyed San Francisco, he destroyed, along with Newscum, California. And we’re not going to let her do that to this country. We’re not going to let it happen."

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Donald Trump, Former U.S. President, Republican presidential nominee:
"I want to send our love to everyone affected by the hurricane. As you know, it was a rough night and it’s who would have thought? A lot of things happening at one time, but that just ripped through Florida and also the people of North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida again, and Tennessee for what they went through with Hurricane, Hurricane Helene. We had quite a quite a combination. I’d like to congratulate the governors of Florida, Ron DeSantis, Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia and South Carolina, Henry McMaster. They were really hit hard and they’ve done really a fantastic job. The federal government, on the other hand, has has not done what you’re supposed to be doing, in particular with respect to North Carolina. They’ve let those people suffer unjustly, unjustly. And we’re praying for all of those who lost a house or much more importantly, a precious loved one. And there were many actually, many, many in Georgia, North Carolina. Florida will rebuild and come back strong. It always does, I look forward to returning very soon. We’ll be there very soon."

STORYLINE:
Donald Trump on Thursday lobbed new complaints about the federal response to a pair of hurricanes that ravaged large swaths of the Southeast, as he again seeks to increasingly turn two deadly storms to his political advantage ahead of the November election.
The former president spoke at the Detroit Economic Club, shortly after his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, virtually attended a briefing, held in the White House Situation Room, on emergency efforts in Hurricane Milton’s wake.
Trump offered empathetic messages to people affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which came ashore Wednesday night. Trump also suggested that the federal response had been lacking, particularly in North Carolina, where he alleged the government after Helene had “not done what you’re supposed to be doing."
“They’ve let those people suffer unjustly,” said Trump, who has for several days promoted falsehoods about the response of President Joe Biden and emergency management officials.
President Joe Biden has repeatedly slammed Trump for spreading misinformation about federal assistance available to victims, including falsely claiming that such assistance is capped at $750. In reality, that is just for immediate needs, the first potential payout rather than the total.
The former president also criticized Detroit while delivering his economic remarks there, saying the whole country would end up like the city if his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, is elected.
“The whole country will be like — you want to know the truth? It’ll be like Detroit,” the Republican presidential nominee said. “Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president.”
