STORYLINE:
Israeli airstrikes on central Beirut killed at least 22 people and wounded dozens as they left two neighborhoods smoldering, Lebanon’s health ministry said.
The air raid in the Lebanese capital on Thursday night apparently targeted two residential buildings in separate neighborhoods simultaneously, according to an Associated Press photographer at the scene.
It brought down one apartment building in Burj Abi Haider and wiped out the lower floors of the other.
Rescue operations were still underway Friday near the collapsed building.
