2. SOUNDBITE (English) Ty ONeil, The Associated Press:
"We’re out this morning checking on Orlando for flooding after the hurricane. As you can see behind me right here, this road is flooded. Search and rescue came out earlier, checked on the people in these homes. There are people in those homes. They are okay. One of them did need something. Search and rescue was able to get it to them. It might look kind of shallow right here. But as you go back farther, the search and rescue guys were already up to their waist in water. So pretty much impassable. These people are pretty much stuck in their homes until the water begins to recede. But I’ll show you something right now. This is impassable. And if I only turn around, you can see the road here is fine. And that’s what really what I’ve seen a bit of in Orlando is some roads seem totally okay. Two blocks off, It’s impassable. And that’s really what we’ve seen in Orlando so far."

STORYLINE:
Residents in Orlando, Fla. awoke Thursday to flooded and impassable streets after Hurricane Milton barreled through overnight.

But as AP’s Ty ONeil explains, the flooding was sporadic, with stretches of the same road underwater, while other sections remained free of standing water.

The storm knocked out power to more than 3 million customers and whipped up a barrage of tornadoes. Milton caused at least four deaths and compounded the misery wrought by Helene while sparing Tampa a direct hit.
