STORYLINE:
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, in Amman on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The meeting took place against a backdrop of intensifying conflict across the region as Israel steps up its bombardment of Lebanon and mulls its response to a massive missile attack by Iran last week.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel has killed the successor to the head of Hezbollah, while the militant group’s acting leader promised more fighting in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Health Ministry says the Palestinian death toll from the war in Gaza has passed 42,000.
