"As the Turkish government, we are conducting a big-scale evacuation operation from Lebanon because of the worsening security situation under the Israeli aggression. And this is based on the demands, the rising amount of demands to be evacuated coming from our compatriots, the Turkish nationals living in Lebanon. Under the coordination of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in cooperation with the other relevant Turkish agencies, today the Turkish Navy is sending two military vessels, which are bringing 300 tons of humanitarian assistance to be donated to the Lebanese government for the use of our Lebanese brothers and sisters, and also to take up to 2,000 Turkish citizens from the port of Beirut to the port of Mersin."

"I am now leaving my country and returning to my homeland. Both of them are my countries. It saddens me to see my country here being destroyed, and people are dying. This is a very painful feeling, very painful. War is terrible all over the world. I wish they would stop the war, stop the bombing, and stop inventing weapons, because people want to live, not die."

STORYLINE:
Turkish navy ships docked at a port in Beirut on Wednesday as a part of a mission to bring humanitarian aid to Lebanon and evacuate Turkish citizens wanting to leave.
Two of the ships, which can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers, were carrying up to 300 tons of humanitarian aid consisting of food, tents and blankets, according to a statement from the Turkish Defense Ministry.
Turkish nationals, carrying their luggage, gathered at Beirut’s seaside arena, waiting for their documents to be checked before boarding one of the naval vessels.
Turkey’s ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Baris Ulusoy, said the evacuation operation comes due to the "worsening security situation under the Israeli aggression."
Two naval ships are "bringing 300 tons of humanitarian assistance to be donated to the Lebanese government for the use of our Lebanese brothers and sisters, and also to take up to 2,000 Turkish citizens," he said.
Citizens of Bulgaria, Romania and Kazakhstan also applied for the evacuation, the ministry said.
The two ships are part of a larger six-vessel convoy that departed the southern port of Mersin early Wednesday.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said additional evacuations would be organized if necessary.
