1. Various of displaced people outside their tents
2. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Liyala al-Shanar, a displaced woman from Gaza:
"In the past years, the children were in their schools. We were – thank God – in our homes, (living) in peace. We lost peace. Of course, we lost everything we have. Our homes, of course, were not just stones. They meant safety and stability. And we have lost all of this. We live in a tent that doesn’t protect us from the winter cold, or the summer heat. Thank God, during this past year, we have appealed to end this thing (war), but – thank God- all our appeals have gone unanswered."
3. Various of displaced woman washing clothes
4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Nadra al-Sharif, a displaced woman from Gaza:
"It was difficult, very difficult year. I have been displaced along with five of my children without their father who is still wounded in Gaza City. We don’t have a breadwinner. The situation here has been very difficult for us. We live on the Tikeya (open kitchens that give food for displaced people). Our situation is difficult. There is no breadwinner. And here, sometimes, one goes to sleep frightened, and sometimes without food. And as you see, the tent has no covers, blankets. The situation is very difficult."

They didn’t leave anything for us, no tents, no houses and no martyrs. We trust in Allah (God). We don’t know our fate, but Allah is with us."

STORYLINE:
A year-long war between Hamas and Israel has left Gaza in ruins, with most of its people displaced and living in tents across the Palestinian enclave.
The war, which was triggered by a Hamas-led cross-border attack on southern Israel, has killed about 42,000 Palestinians and displaced 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million population.
Most live in tent camps along the strip’s Mediterranean shore.
"We have been humiliated," said Mona al-Gamal, a displaced woman, of the past year.
The woman’s husband was killed in the war in northern Gaza, and her child was injured, "We don’t know our fate, but Allah (God) is with us."
On Oct. 7 last year, Hamas-led militants blew holes in Israel’s security fence and stormed into nearby army bases and farming communities in a surprise attack, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting another 250.
The militants are still holding around 100 captives inside Gaza, a third of whom are believed to be dead.
Israel is now at war with Hamas in Gaza and its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon.
It has also vowed to strike Iran in response to a ballistic missile attack on Israel last week.
