STORYLINE:
Thousands of Jamaat Islami party supporters marched in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Sunday to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
The protesters carried placards reading “Boycott for Gaza” and chanting slogans “Down with Israel“.
“This protest is to awaken the world. This protest is to awaken the Muslim rulers. This protest is to tell the US that it is supporting terrorists,” said Hafiz Naeem, the chief of Jamaat Islami.
He went on to say “this protest is to tell the UN that it is not playing its role. It is not helping the oppressed people. Today the people of Karachi gathered here in large numbers to tell the world that they are with the Palestinians.”
Bushra Abdul Ghafoor, a participant in the rally, said he wanted justice. “We are actually demanding justice for Palestine and Gaza. Israel has been attacking Gaza and Palestine for more than a year. We are actually demanding peace and justice for the occupied Palestine.”
