STORYLINE:
A mass of debris left behind by Hurricane Helene, including overturned pontoon boats and splintered wooden docks and tree trunks, covered the surface of Lake Lure, a picturesque spot tucked between the mountains outside Asheville.

Helene has left millions without electricity, water and phone service across the Southeast in the six days since making landfall.

The death toll has topped 180, and many people remain unaccounted for.

President Joe Biden surveyed the devastation in the Carolinas from the air on Wednesday and plans to tour disaster areas in Georgia and Florida on Thursday.

Volunteers with Loaves & Fishes Food Kitchen were serving meals for residents in Lake Lure on Wednesday.

Sarah Sue Miller, one of the volunteers, said they are planning to stay and serve meals for "as long as the community needs us."
