"Today there was a technical hearing, as we call it, because the question of extending the detention measure was discussed, they extended it for six months. And we also determined how we will be reviewing this further, every Thursday from two o’clock in the afternoon there will be a process and as we understood, the judge intends to consider the case without delaying, quite quickly."

STORYLINE:
Four Russian journalists went on trial in Moscow on Wednesday on charges over their alleged work for a group founded by the late Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
Antonina Favorskaya, Artyom Kriger, Sergey Karelin and Konstantin Gabov all deny the charges of involvement with an extremist group that have been levied against them.
Olga Karelina, sister of one of the accused journalists Sergey Karelin told the Associated Press that their friends were shocked to hear the news of Sergey’s arrest and try to support him as much as possible.
"He’s feeling much better. He’s slowly recovering. He seems to be growing a healthy anger, which is good. Because in the first moments, he was terrified." she said.
Karelin is a freelance video journalist, he has done work for Western media outlets, including The Associated Press.
Favorskaya and Kriger worked with SotaVision, an independent Russian news outlet that covers protests and political trials.
Gabov is a freelance producer who has worked for multiple organisations, including Reuters.
Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Konstantion Gabov’s lawyer confirmed that the detention of the four journalists was extended for six months.
She also added that the judge intends to consider the case "without delaying, quite quickly."
If convicted, the four journalists face up to six years in prison.
