We decided to go and look for him. We found him and I did not recognize him, when I saw his face. But I recognized him when I saw his identity document card. It was a difficult situation."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Palestinian mourners attended on Wednesday the funeral of a Palestinian man crushed by a missile fragment that fell near the occupied West Bank city of Jericho.

Sameh Asali’s body was draped in a Palestinian flag and carried by Palestinian Authority security force members.

According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, Asali was killed in the eastern West Bank village of Nuwaima, during Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel Tuesday evening.

"We found him and I did not recognize him, when I saw his face. But I recognized him when I saw his identity document card," said his father, Khader Asali, expressing his shock.

"It was a difficult situation," he added.

Video footage circulating on Palestinian and Israel media showed what appeared to be Asali being flattened by a meters-long missile fragment.

Palestinian police said Sameh Asali was originally from Gaza and had been stranded in the territory since the war broke out.

There were no immediate causalities in Israel during Tuesday’s ballistic missile attack, but two people were lightly wounded.

The Israeli military said it intercepted many of the incoming Iranian missiles, though some landed in central and southern Israel.

The Middle East moved closer to a long-feared regional war Wednesday after Iran’s attack and Israel said it began limited ground incursions into Lebanon targeting the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.
