"It (the museum) first opened in 2003. And then in 2007, some additions were made. At that time, we reached 139 (miniature) models. And the most well-known structures from our provinces, our country, and around the world can be found here. We provide an opportunity for those who are unable to travel around the country to take a tour of Turkey. They (visitors) can come here, see the models, and then visit the actual structures. Or if they’re unable to travel, they can learn about them by seeing the models here."

"The material is individually shaped by our machines according to the models. It’s processed into tablets and then assembled. After that, they are laid on the foundation, lifted and displayed."

"Students and schools prefer to visit in the winter, while during the summer, children come with their families. In terms of tourists, we have many visitors from the Middle East, Russia and Ukraine. We even have visitors from Zambia."

STORYLINE:
An open-air museum in Istanbul shows scaled-down versions of Turkey’s most famous landmarks and architectural gems.
Miniaturk boasts 139 miniature models including Istanbul’s iconic Hagia Sophia mosque and the travertine hot springs of Pamukkale on the country’s Aegean coast.
The museum is popular among visitors from the Middle East who come to see tiny versions of the country’s tourist attractions.
Visitors get to travel all around the country in just one day, says Ayse Caglayan, the director of Miniaturk.
