“We are pained, furious, and stunned that our loved ones have been left for a year in the hell of Hamas tunnels. Omer and Ofer and Arbel and Naama and Yarden don’t care that (Hezbollah leader) Hassan Nasrallah was executed. They aren’t excited by the air force’s’ bombing. They are starved, injured, afraid of the dark, afraid of being shot at any moment, some of them are already dead. We will not forget, will not forgive, and we won’t be silent. We won’t stop reminding this bad government that saving lives is more important than the war.“

STORYLINE:
Dozens of relatives of hostages held in Gaza protested outside the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday to demand a release deal and an end to the war.

“We are pained, furious, and stunned that our loved ones have been left for a year in the hell of Hamas tunnels," said Elad Or, whose brother’s body is being held in the Strip.

“We will not forget, will not forgive, and we won’t be silent. We won’t stop reminding this bad government that saving lives is more important than the war,“ he added.

As the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah grabs global attention, families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza are worried the plight of their loved ones is being ignored.

Israel vowed to destroy Hamas after Oct. 7, when its militants killed some 1,200 people and abducted 250 others. While it has been badly hobbled, the militant group backed by Iran remains in power.

Israel’s government says about 70 of the 100 hostages are still presumed alive.

Since Hamas launched the war on Oct. 7, Israel’s retaliatory invasion of Gaza has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 95,000, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not differentiate between civilians and militants, but says over half of the dead were women and children.
