"For me, as a as a young female actor growing up she was always the one that I looked up to the most because, she, you could tell the character always came first with Maggie. It was never about anything other than, bringing a brilliant life to the screen and sharing it with everyone. You could tell that she enjoyed so much what she did. She didn’t take prisoners. I know that from producers and directors who have worked with her. Apparently she did a movie a few years ago and which is what, you know, sometimes directors do an awful lot. They’ll make you cry again and again and again and again and again. And she did multiple takes, and then she just turned around and she just went, ‘I’m not a tap. You can’t just turn me on and off.’ And then she finished and I thought, yes, we need more of that. And yeah, she, she’s just she’s so singular. She’s so unique. And the world will be a less bright place without Maggie. For sure."

"I met her once. Oh god, I’m so upset. Oh so sad. I met her once, a few years ago with Finola Dwyer, who did ‘Quartet’ with her, which I think is when she said that. And, I only met her briefly, but I was so starstruck, and I was so I felt so pleased to just at least say hello to her and touch her hand. So, yeah, I only met her briefly. I wish I’d gotten to work with her. But I think anyone who has gotten to work with her, I’m sure they feel incredibly lucky that they got to share the screen with her."

Smith, an award-winning actor, known for her roles in the “Harry Potter” movies and “Downton Abbey” died Friday at 89.
