(China and India) have had in-depth exchanges about relevant issues in border regions, and further reduced differences and expanded consensus.”

“Both sides agreed to strengthen dialogues and consultations, take into consideration each other’s legitimate concerns, and reach a mutually acceptable solution at an early date. Before that, the two sides will consolidate existing outcomes, strictly abide by border-related agreements and follow confidence-building measures, and continue to safeguard peace and tranquillity along the border.”

STORYLINE:
A Chinese defense ministry spokesperson said that his country and India have had "in-depth exchanges" about border issues which have "further reduced differenced and expanded consensus."
Zhang Xiaogang told journalists at the news conference in Beijing on Thursday that China and India have been maintaining "close communication and dialogue with each other through diplomatic and military channels."
He also said that during recent talks "both sides agreed to strengthen dialogues and consultations, take into consideration each other’s legitimate concerns, and reach a mutually acceptable solution at an early date."
Those remarks followed a clash three years ago in the disputed Ladakh region which killed 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese nationals.
It turned into a long-running standoff in the rugged mountainous area, where each side has stationed tens of thousands of military personnel backed by artillery, tanks and fighter jets.
